This is the Place State Park

This is when we stopped at This is the Place State Park just above Salt Lake City. We were on our way home from the Clark Campout and we needed a break from driving so we stopped to take a look. It was really fun because they were doing their 24th of July celebration and we got there in time to see some of it.

Patrick experimenting on some stilts, and doing rather well, I might add.

We found our new house, but unfortunately, it wasn't up for sale.

Here are some views out over the Salt Lake Valley. It was beautiful that day becuase there was a huge storm the night before that cleared the air out very nicely.

Random Stuff

These are some random pics of stuff from thorughout this year.

This was our 1st year orchestra class for the Mountain West String Acadamy at Lincoln Elementery last spring at their end of school performance party. They did so well! They are now 5th graders and in their second year of playing. We love teaching elementary orchestra. :)

This is us playing at an early summer recital for my private students and my sister's private students combined. We goofed up pretty bad, but we got through it :)

Last May, the USU Symphony and Chorale performed Bethoven's entire 9th Symphony. It was quite a huge ordeal and it took the whole year to get ready. This is us just after the concert. I was ready to die of exhaustion!

Crimson Trail Hike (last May...)

We took a hike back in may about two weeks before the wedding. We hiked on a trail up Logan Canyon called the "Crimson Trail". It goes along a rock formation called the China Wall which is a long strip of cliffs that hugs the mountainside. It was really fun, but it's not a good hike to go on if you're afraid of hights.

This is looking down on 2nd Dam and the highway. Since the Crimson trail goes along the top of a rock cliff, there's a sheer drop on one side, but it's pretty safe as long as you don't do anything completely stupid...

Another steep drop. Sometimes there were large shelves of rock that would reach out over the "abyss" that served as fun little lookout spots. I was never really brave enough to venture out on most of them, but Patrick did. This one had a big split in the middle and it was a big hole that led straight down the side of the cliff.

This is when we got higher up on the side of the mountain. The highway is a lot smaller.

Patrick liked to throw rocks off the sides of the cliffs just like this. I feel bad for the people coming up the trail below us....

The trail goes right along cliffs like this one most of the time. It was very narrow in some spots so it was kind of scary (to me, anyway). We had to hike singel-file a lot of the time. It was tricky in one spot when we ran into an injurred baby Rattle Snake and met some other hikers head on at the same time. The rattler was on the mountain side of the trail so it was about waist level becuase the moutian went straight up from the trail. I almost didn't go around it. We had to squeeze past the other hikers and past the rattle snake, but after that, all the wildlife we encountered consisted of birds and squirrels.

Sometimes the trail would lead away from the cliffs and go through the forrest like right here. This is towards the end of the hike.

This is the tail end of the trail that passes by the Logan River and by a campground.

It was a great hike but it took us the entire day and we were pretty pooped that night : ) Will we do it again? Definitely!

A Day at the Lake

We took a little trip to Bear Lake back in August. It was so much fun! Patrick had never been there so when we drove up over the hill his first reaction was "Holy cow! It's huge!! And it's so blue!" If any of you have ever been to Bear Lake, you'll know its not called the "Carribean of the Rockies" for nothing. It was beautiful that day. It was one of the last Saturday's before school started so there were about a million people there. Fortunately, we got a spot of beach and had a fantastic day :)

This is a little frog we caught on the beach. I've never seen a frog at Bear Lake before so it was kind of weird...

Can we say the word "froggy" enough? honestly.

We picked a great day to be there so of course there were about a billion people spread all along the entire north beach. We came later in the afternoon too, so it was already crowded. Luckilly we found a perfect little spot set up for some fun in the sun.

It was a beautiful day to be at the lake!

Me...

This is Patrick doing a manly pose under the unbrella. This is actually the same umbrella we used for the refreshment table at our wedding. And now it sits in our picknick table on our front porch. It definitely has many uses (thanks grandma!).
